WERA Task Force Global Research in Extended Education 2024 Conference
GELYDA was honored to participate in the WERA conference in Brisbane, Australia in September, hosted by Griffith University and the National Outside School Hours Services Alliance (NOSHSA). GELYDA hosted a panel session entitled, ​​Global Perspectives on Connecting Research, Practice, and Policy in Extended Learning with strong attendance. GELYDA founders Dr. Kolbrún Þorbjörg Pálsdóttir (Iceland, moderator), Dr. Dale Blyth (USA, discussant), Dr. Sanghoon Bae (South Korea, panelist), Kylie Brannelly (Australia, panelist), Dr. Linda Khanyi (South Africa, panelist) and Dr. Fuyuko Kanefuji (Japan, closing remarks) served as representatives of the Association.
GELYDA Blogs

GELYDA Iceland Conference June 2025
Interested in learning and shaping the evolving worldwide advancement of young peoples' development, learning and resilience? GELYDA will be hosting its first in person conference (with hybrid components), Science and Practice of Extended Learning, Youth Development and Wellbeing, in Reykjavik Iceland June 11-13, 2025.
The first round for call for abstracts is currently open until 11/15/24 with a second round being offered through March 2025. Please visit the conference website to learn more and be sure to submit your abstract early for review
Advisory Board
As we embark on the journey of shaping the future of extended learning and youth development, GELYDA recognizes the crucial role of experienced leaders in guiding our endeavors. We are thrilled to share that the inaugural GELYDA Advisory Board has been named and will be announced on the Association’s website soon. We are honored to bring these distinguished individuals from various corners of the globe together to bring their wealth of expertise representing research, practice, and policy to guide the development and work of GELYDA.
Extensions Newsletter
We are excited to announce the launch of GELYDA’s Extensions publication in 2025. This bi-annual international magazine will be dedicated to delving into the realm of extended education and wellbeing and aims to be a resource for researchers, practitioners, and policy-makers who are passionate about extending the experiences, development and learning of children and adolescents. Please stay tuned for more information at the start of the year.
Member Involvement
As GELYDA grows and expands we encourage members to become more actively involved in the Association. There are many ways to contribute including submitting blogs, sharing articles/ publications/events for our resource page, attending GELYDA events, assisting with subcommittee work, connecting with professionals across the globe, etc. If you would like to learn about becoming more involved more please contact us at gelyda.association@outlook.com.
